As the Super Bowl nears kickoff, 'Who Can Forget?' relives some of the most iconic game day commercials

FOX News

The highly-anticipated Super Bowl LVI takes the field in just a few weeks, scheduled to be played on February 13, 2022, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. And while the Big Game is inarguably the biggest television event of the year – with last year's record-low viewership still drawing in an astounding 92 million watchers - it's no wonder ad space can cost as much as $6 million for just 30 seconds of time. If you happen to identify with a large percentage of the population that's perhaps more interested in the myriad of big-budget, high-profile commercials that air between gameplay than the game itself, look no further than 38 years back in time. FOX NATION REVEALS THE MOST OUTRAGEOUS, TRAGIC, AND FASCINATING STORIES OF THE YEAR Fox Nation's'Who Can Forget 1984?' dedicates one of the show's standard top ten positions to celebrating that year's commercial success, breaking down two of the most-talked-about Super Bowl XVIII commercials: But almost 40 years ago, it wasn't the household name it is today -- until a Super Bowl XVIII ad changed the game. The commercial, a takeoff of George Orwell's dystopian social science fiction novel "1984," was heralded as a masterpiece.

Peter Thiel to Silicon Valley: 'Unethical' not to help U.S. military compete with China

FOX News

Billionaire Silicon Valley investor and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel called on American technology companies to step up innovation and resist pressures to reject military partnerships, arguing the U.S. is lagging behind China in the technology race. "The China dynamic has changed things tremendously in the last few years. China is going to force us to compete, to think much harder, [about] how we can deploy technologies much faster," Thiel said during a discussion at the Reagan National Defense Forum on Friday, which was livestreamed on Fox Nation. Thiel was commenting on a study by data and analytics company Govini, which showed that the U.S.'s share in global research and development spending declined from more than 60 percent in 1967, to less than 30 percent today. Meanwhile, China's share of the world R&D spending has increased significantly and today China has a larger share than the U.S. did at the height of the Cold War. "In the 90s and maybe still in the 2000s, we thought the Cold War was over.

Jeff Bezos warns Big Tech not to 'turn their backs' on the U.S. military: 'We are the good guys'

FOX News

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos warned American technology companies to resist bowing to employee pressure to "turn their backs" on the Pentagon and the defense of the United States. "One of the things happening inside technology companies is there are groups of employees who, for example, think that technology companies should not work with the Department of Defense," said Bezos during a discussion at the Reagan National Defense Forum on Friday, which is also available on Fox Nation. "People are entitled to their opinions," continued Bezos, "but it is the job of the senior leadership team to say, 'No.'" In 2018, Silicon Valley giant Google made the controversial decision to withdraw its bid to work on a Pentagon initiative called Project Maven, which used artificial intelligence to analyze data captured by U.S. government drones. More than 3,000 Google employees signed a letter addressed to company CEO Sundar Pichai protesting Google's involvement.

Trump-friendly tech guru: Silicon Valley sees China as 'the ultimate business opportunity, not the ultimate adversary'

FOX News

At the height of the 2016 presidential contest, then-Facebook executive Palmer Luckey was a Silicon Valley star when he donated $10,000 to an anti-Hillary Clinton group. Six months later, he was out – reportedly fired for his political positions. Now, Luckey runs a new venture, backed by Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel, that is reportedly valued at more than $1 billion. In the new FOX Nation documentary "Artificial Intelligence: The Coming Revolution," Fox Business Network anchor and'Mornings with Maria' host Maria Bartiromo went inside Luckey's Anduril Industries, which is at the forefront of America's race to use artificial intelligence to protect national security. "The thing about the United States is that we are at a strategic disadvantage because of the ethics that we have. We're not willing to play dirty. Russia and China don't have a problem with any of those things," Luckey told Fox Nation.

Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel says US is lagging China in facial recognition tech

FOX News

The introduction of artificial intelligence into everyday life is raising new concerns over how these revolutionary new technologies will be used to help or potentially hurt humanity. Bloomberg News reported that France is set to become the first European country to implement facial recognition technology to create a digital identity for its citizens. In the summer of 2018, 2 million people took to the streets of Hong Kong to protest against authoritarian Chinese rule. The demonstrators knocked down a tower equipped with facial recognition software that used A.I. cameras to track and identify anyone participating in the protest. In 2019, San Francisco became the first big American city to ban the use of facial recognition technology.

Peter Navarro slams Federal Reserve: 'playing checkers in a chess world'

FOX News

On Fox Nation's "Maria Bartiromo's Insiders", White House trade adviser Peter Navarro pointed the finger at the Federal Reserve amid concerns of a potential U.S. economic recession. "The problem here, the thing that worries me is that we've got a Federal Reserve playing checkers in a chess world," said Navarro. Despite signs of slowing U.S. job growth and global economic uncertainty, Navarro insists that the U.S. economy is "solid", and he blamed the U.S. central bank for failing to properly react to financial moves made by global actors. "In the world of central banking, the Federal Reserve has to pay very close attention to what the European Central Bank is doing and other central banks. If they lower, we have to lower otherwise we lose exports and we slow our growth," said Navarro, adding that the high cost of borrowing is damaging to the U.S. economy.
